CODE Records celebrates its landmark 40th release with a jackin’ hardgroove techno album by record label owner Cesar Almena.
Cesar Almena is one of Spain’s most accomplished techno DJs, and a true stalwart of the underground scene in Madrid. His new album Techno Influences is a high-energy release featuring 10 hardgroove techno tracks.
He is one of the people who co-founded the CODE events at Fabrik in Madrid, which regularly plays host to some of the world’s greatest techno DJs ranging from Carl Cox to Ben Klock and everyone in between.
This new album by Cesar Almena comes via CODE Records, which is associated with his events at Fabrik, and it’s a record label that he frequents regularly, but he has also worked with other influential imprints such as Naked Lunch.
First on the release is the bouncy acid groove of “ZaPaTiLLa,” which has ravey, synth stabs layered with intense claps, as it builds to the dramatic vocals of the tense breakdown. The next couple of tracks get more percussive, until reaching the melodic chords of “Alive.”
“Ekho” is fifth on the release, and it brings back the acid, then “Alone” is another percussive track. “I’m So the Sure” has stabbing vocal snippets, and “Eh Oh” brings the heat with old-school chords and rattling snare rolls. “Bombeo” is another percussive track, and “Knights of the Groovy” is an uplifting breakbeat track that brings the release to an epic close.
It’s an album that keeps one eye on the dance floor, while also providing techno heads with a dynamic listening experience when played in full.
