Boom Merchant continues his busy release schedule with a new three-track techno release on his own imprint, Tribal Pulse.

‘Mexico on MPC‘ is a new release that follows Boom Merchant’s recent outings on other imprints including La La’s Brand New Records, T78’s Autektone, and Sisko Electrofanatik’s Gain. Tribal Pulse is the main outlet for Boom Merchant’s music, but the imprint has also featured tracks by a selection of other talented producers.
Originally from Ireland, Boom Merchant recently relocated to Mexico, and this release pays homage to his new home. For those who don’t know, ‘MPC’ is a famous model of sampler made by Akai.
“Acapulco” gets things moving with a raw percussion loop, underlining the floating melody of uplifting pads and uplifting bursts of vocal.
“Dadle” is an interesting combination of jazz and techno, as it’s got swirling drums and ominous synths that in the breakdown, fade into short sections of jazz flute. It’s a nice switch between the rigid groove of techno and the organic flow of jazz.
“Fivejag” boxes off the release with breakbeat kick drum patterns and modulating percussion sounds swept by filters and phase FX. It’s aggressive bassline and trippy vibe are in line with the other two tracks, but it’s rhythms and tempo push it into the breaks genre.
Overall, it’s a dynamic and varied selection of tracks that have allowed Boom Merchant to flex his production muscles, and show off his ability to create a variation of styles.
