UMEK returns to his hardgroove roots with the return of his alias, Polyvinyl.

UMEK puts out a new single ‘Mechanically Intensive‘ under his hardgroove alias, Polyvinyl, and the release also launches his new record label, 1605 GrooveSector. (Rleased: 28 February 2025 / Beatport)

1605 GrooveSector is a sub-label of UMEK’s main record label, 1605, which is best known for releasing mainstage techno from artists like Mha Iri, Sam WOLFE, and Kos:mo. The new offshoot will focus on underground tracks with raw sounds, tribal drums, and hypnotic energy.

Mechanically Intensive” features two of UMEK’s tracks, and it’s a welcome return to the style the Slovenian artist championed in the early ‘00s via labels like Primate Recordings and Recycled Loops.

Already picking up support from the likes of Xhin, Truncate, Ken Ishii, The Advent and Uncertain, the release’s title track, “Mechanically Intensive,” layers filter swept congas and offbeat stabs with a rolling bassline that propels the track.

On the flip side, “Da Flute,” has rhythmic claps and fizzing hi-hats combined with a throbbing bassline to form the meat of the fast-paced groove. It’s the synthesised flute sound that is the focal point of this cut, as the Middle-Eastern influence of the hypnotising melody gives the track a mesmerising sound.
