With ‘Helter Skelter’, the London-based DJ and producer Bailey Ibbs lands his debut on VOITAX. After having released a variety of tunes on labels such as Practical Rhythms and Dansu Discs, including the launch of his label – Night Service, the ambitious young talent keeps adding to the newer UK Garage scene. With the VOI 026 Bailey demonstrates once again that he has proven himself to be a serious representative that yet doesn’t seem to bind himself to any particular genre. His latest EP now opens up doors to the sunnier season of the year and serves you a skillfully produced mixture of Dubstep, Dancehall, House, and punchy breaks.
‘Warriors Call‘ is opening up the stage as a striking synth motif that playfully harmonises with percussive drum patterns wrapped in beautiful oriental atmospheres. Moving forward with ‘I’ll Always‘, Ibbs drops a heavyweight for the bigger sound systems – a filtered dub echo winds through pitched vocal cuts that are complemented by just the right amount of percussive patterns and powerful kicks.
On the flip-side Ibbs most recent inspirations become even more clear as he is merging a set of different genres. The title track of the EP – ‘Helter Skelter‘ in combination with the well-chosen outro – ‘Off The Lorry‘ is a perfect blend of deep, snotty basslines and sampled vocal phrases that find their origin in old dancehall and dub tracks.
With punchy breaks and chirping siren-like synths, the B-side closes the chapter and turns this record into a real classic.
