Louis sends his first solo EP over the homebased modem. The ‘Tristesse‘ is an analogue live session and a mixture of the primeval depths of dub techno. Dark atmospheres, breakbeats and powerful kick drums are accompanied by acid sounds and deep synth pads.
‘In’ sets the mood of his EP: a restless melancholy appearing more yearning than oppressive. ‘Tristesse’ follows with a lofi piano dispersing in the reverb, then the dull bass kicks in, the pulse is back. Again and again the music ebbs away, seems to stand still, but always returns to restless activity.
‘Monorail’ is initially less melancholic, but still remains restless. As the song progresses, a rattling bassline pushes forward, the nervous synth melody grips the tune right from the start while the bass drum creates a specific snap towards the end of the track.
The disquietness also remains in ‘Expo’, but the atmosphere is darker than before. In fast semiquavers with off-beat accents, the hi-hat pushes the listener through the track. A single bass note throbs in the background, shifting rhythmic, adding to the track‘s edgy mood.
With ‘Out’ Louis leaves the vague nervousness of sadness behind. A clarified and tidy mood develops from the gloomy chaos, the feeling remains that this journey is not yet over.
For his remix, Lorenz Kraach is inspired by the shadings of ‘Tristesse’. He cleverly fuses the nuances of nervousness and creates his own reduced interpretation with a rough house beat and the driving bassline of ‘Monorail’.
